PURPOSE OF THE LEADERSHIP CONVERGENCE

The 26th of June 2006 marked the 61st anniversary of the birth of the United Nations.  Even today the possibility that the human race can unite remains a largely unexpressed hope.  The United Nations named 1965 "the year of global cooperation."  It is the year that the Unity-and-Diversity World Council (UDC) began with the central task of seeing that the hope for global cooperation would be realized.  Now it appears that if left only up to the nations, global cooperation could remain forever out of reach.  It is time for the peoples of the world to recognize the need to take initiative as leaders.

On Saturday, the 24th of June, 2006, two days before Charter Day of the United Nations, UDC invited everyone  to a special Leadership Convergence to be held at the Multipurpose Room, 1020 S. Flower St., Los Angeles.  On that day leaders had an opportunity to join in using the "Guidelines for an Interdependent World Culture" created last year at this time.  The day included two panels on current issues, followed by small group sessions which are designed to be ongoing after the Convergence.  Then everyone returned to a closing Oneness Session.

The small groups are encouraged to continuing meeting as part of the monthly General Assembly sessions and to take on one or more projects in our time of global crisis and challenge.

Subjects and speakers include:

  • GLOBAL WARMING - JIM STEWART, Coordinator, annual Earth Day in So. Calif.

  •
  • IMMIGRATION REFORM - CHARLES L. ANCHANG, Publisher, "The Immigrant" Magazine
