5,000 people in L.A. walk for Peace

On May 25th, 5,000 leaders and youth joined others worldwide by walking for peace legislation for the community and the world.

Gathering at the docks of Santa Monica Pier, the group were intent upon making their voices heard.

The peace walk is in honor of the “6th Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of World Peace and the Peace Walk” held in 126 cities in 77 countries around the world including Los Angeles, Washington D.C., San Francisco in the United States of America, Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico, Argentina, Canada, Germany, and the Philippines. It commemorates the day when this declaration was proclaimed on May 25, 2013 in South Korea. Under the theme of “The World’s Call for Peace, Urging Support for the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW)”, the event was hosted by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an international peace NGO affiliated with the UN ECOSOC and the UN DGC.

This peace walk has been carried out simultaneously in various places all over the world in May every year with the aim of promoting the role and participation of individuals in the international community to achieve peace and spreading a culture of peace.

“We’ve reached a point where we have to realize the old ways weren’t working, and we need something different to fix the problem with violence in the world,” said Karla Pasham, an educator in Los Angeles who participated in the peace walk. “If weapon technology and ways to hurt each other keeps advancing, then we need to advance our solutions for peace.”
