Citizens United Decision Betrays DEMOCRACY
Humanity inched toward DEMOCRACY – one conscience – one VOTE, for 2000 years only to have it betrayed in 2010.
ORGANICALLY, Democracy is an extension of the self. It is continually evolving as we evolve. It incorporates all the essences and rights of the individual into a way of life which guaranties reverence for life for all, personal freedom for all held together and preserved by the dedicated personal responsibility of all to uphold this ORGANIC wholeness. It is defined as government of the people, by the people and for the people.
DEMOCRACY is built upon the integrity of the individual conscience which incorporates the personal understanding that participation or voting in the democratic process is much more than a right. It is a responsibility to vote. It is a duty to vote. Voting is the price paid for enjoying all the rights and benefits of living in freedom.
MONEY, by itself, is inorganic, a token, a chip, a coin, a piece of paper. It was invented to be used in a transaction which is a mathematical construct, also inorganic. Money’s meaning or its value or its claim to authenticity in our ORGANIC universe comes solely from the human beings who control it.
CAPITALISM did not enter the English language until the 19th century but it has developed at mercurial speed. While we have been trying to perfect the democratic process for some 2000 years we have been working with capitalism for a mere 200 years and contemporary PHILOSOPHY is struggling to bring it into harmony with ORGANIC nature as this is where democracies recognize their role as custodians of the planet.
CAPITALISM has been changing our understanding of the meaning and purpose of life. Part a. of a Corporation is to deliver goods or services. ORGANIC nature requires that something of intrinsic value is inherent in this. ‘Free enterprise’ and entrepreneurship and part b. of the Articles of Incorporation for Corporations in the 21st century, ‘to make a profit’ or ‘to make money’ are all recruits of Capitalism.
RECRUITS OF CAPITALISM can overrule the equivalency requirement of ORGANIC nature and siphon money to those few who take control of it. If these citizens do not understand their role in life and the law of proportionality there is a philosophical problem. All who contribute to the profit need to be compensated with some measure of proportionality. Contributors consist of the people engaged in the project as well as mother nature and the environment whose share is held in a reserve as a sacred trust.
MAKING A PROFIT tests the belief system and morality of a country as a whole and particularly of those who have control over money that is considered ‘ profit’. The inorganic money representing the profit may be in the hands of a few. Some of them may feel they ‘own’ this money and where money is revered almost to godhood, such people may feel unduly powerful.
THE CITIZENS UNITED DECISION shines the light on a previously unrecognized injustice. Inorganic money and transactions that are not compensating all the contributors to the project as above now threaten to mutilate the very essence of our human treasure, our democracy. Those who feel powerful having access to or control over money may feel that such power gives them the right to try to influence the vote of others by excessive spending in a biased way.
However each person in a democracy has full control of only one conscience, their own, and magnified opportunities of persuasion given to a few consciences through the use of this inorganic money are unfair and undemocratic if these same opportunities are not given to everyone else.
PHILOSOPHICALLY the use of this money in this way is betraying the integrity of the vote and hence democracy itself and is philosophically null and void. It is only redeemable if each vote targeted is allocated an equal amount of money to be expended on it.
VOTE OR FACE A FINE would heal this democracy and free up trillions of dollars better spent on fostering a sense of community and pride in our government.
PHILOSOPHY, by clarifying these basic tenets of our treasure, our democracy, is fulfilling its own function and encouraging ‘the people’ to understand that they really are able to bring Capitalism into harmony with ORGANIC nature where it can enhance their livelihood, not mutilate it.
